Two More for Thor: New Posters Complete the Set : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog

Textface alert for these two new posters for Marvel’s Thor movie, completing the set which began earlier in the day withthese faceposters featuring Chris Hemsworth and Anthony Hopkins.

Natalie Portman and Idris Elba are pushed both front and centre for these images, and there’s a quiet momentum building for Branagh’s film, though how much it permeates the audience unfamiliar with the comic book is unclear– these posters are striking enough but will they help draw the crowds in the same way the first Iron Man film did?

Thor is directed byKenneth Branaghand Chris Hemsworth as the title character alongsideNatalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Kat Dennings, Idris Elba, Stellan Skarsgård, Ray Stevenson and Rene Russo.

We can expect to see it in the UK 28th April 2011.

Synopsis: Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior, is sent down to Earth has punishment for reigniting a reckless war. But after a dangerous villain from his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth, the hammer-wielding Thor will learn what it takes to be a true hero in order to save mankind.

Here they are,Moviewebhad‘em first.

I’m actually hoping that this is a subtle tease for Branagh’s own stylistic preference for Thor– that this is how the film will look when it appears in cinemas,

But that probably won’t happen. Shame.

The First image of Shia LaBeouf in The Wettest County in the World : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog

John Hillcoat’s latest movie, The Wettest County in the World has somewhat of a dream cast attached which includes the likes ofGary Oldman,Mia Wasikowska,Tom Hardy,Shia LaBeouf,Guy Pearce, Jason Clarke, and Jessica Chastain.

SlashFilmgive us more information on the movie which was apparently scheduled to start shooting last year then died, but as this image of Shia La Beouf and possible co-stars proves, the movie is alive and well and is current filming as I type.

Plot: In 1928, a pair of thieves accost Bondurant’s real life great-uncle Forrest at his Franklin County, Va., restaurant. They’re after a large cache of bootlegging money and end up cutting Forrest’s throat. The story of his survival and his trek to a hospital 12 miles away has taken on mythical proportions by the time SherwoodAnderson arrives in Franklin County in 1934 to research a magazine piece on the area’s prolific moonshiners. Soon after Anderson’s arrival, two anonymous men appear at the same hospital, one with legs meticulously shattered from ankle to hip, the other one castrated, with the by-products of the deed deposited in a jar of moonshine. The arc of the story lies between the attack on Forrest and that on the two men.

This first image comes fromShiantology, a site dedicated to all thing La Beouf!

Jason Schwartzman Joins Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog

It will come as no surprise to fans of Anderson’s and Schwartzman’s thatthe latter has joined Anderson’s new movie, Moonrise Kingdom.

Schwartzman’s acting debut saw him take the lead in Anderson’s second film, Rushmore, which, like all of Anderson’s films, is something of a cult favourite. The two have since worked together on The Darjeeling Limited, which Schwartman also helped to write, and on 2009’s Fantastic Mr. Fox, and their pairing over the years has been incredibly successful. The two clearly must have a great connection with each other, having started their careers much at the same time together, and there is every reason to expect that Moonrise Kingdom will be another Anderson success.

Schwartzman was last seen on the big screen in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World as the last of Ramona Flowers’ boyfriends, he has since been seen on HBO in Bored To Death, playing the lead in a TV series alongside Zach Galifianakis (whose name I always need to double- (okay, triple-)check I’ve spelt right) and Ted Danson.

Moonrise Kingdom has already got an impeccably strong cast lined up for itself, with Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, and Anderson-favourite Bill Murray attached to star too.The Guardianhave a bit more to say on the plot:

“Moonrise Kingdom is a 60′s set tale which revolves around two young lovers who take off from their New England hometown causing friends and family to embark on a search for them. Willis, according to previous reports, will play the town sheriff, who’s also having an affair with the missing girl’s mother (a role pencilled for McDormand), while Norton has his eye on the part of a scout master. Murray will play the girl’s father.”

I am a really big fan of all of Wes Anderson’s films to date, and I truly can’t wait to see how Moonrise Kingdom turns out. It certainly has potential based on that plot, and given that Anderson will be at the helm with such a terrific cast to work with, at the very least I can see it taking a strong position in my Top 10 of 2012.

Anderson has co-written the script with Roman Coppola (son of Francis Ford Coppola), and filming is to begin in the coming months in Rhode Island. With Owen Wilson’s schedule currently looking relatively light, mostly filled with upcoming animated film Turkeys and David Frankel-directed The Big Year, I am hopeful – expectant, even – that Wilson will be confirmed for Moonrise Kingdom before long. Having starred in all six of Anderson’s feature films todate, it just wouldn’t seem right without him.

The Bang Bang Club Gets A New Trailer : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog

The new trailer for Steven Silver’s The Bang Bang Club has gone live over atRopeofSilicon.

The film, which starsRyan Phillippe(The Lincoln Lawyer),Taylor Kitsch(X-Men Origins: Wolverine) andMalin Akerman(Watchmen), will hit cinemas on April 22, having been picked up by Tribeca Film.

Based on real events, The Bang Bang Club centres on Greg Marinovich (Phillippe), Kevin Carter (Kitsch), Joao Silva (Neels Van Jaarsveld) and Ken Oosterbroek (Frank Rautenbach), four combat photojournalists who worked through the first free elections in post Apartheid South Africa during the early 90s.

With early reports from its screening at Toronto last year bathing the film in a relatively positive light, it was left to Variety’s Peter Debruge to argue that the filmmakers should have taken more liberties and risks with the story. Regardless of such early reviews, however, the trailer does show considerable promise.

Route Irish review : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog

Ken Loachreturns to the political arena with the taut, violent Route Irish, a cautionary tale about the privatization of modern war propelled by a riveting, intricately plotted mystery.

Ex-SAS private security contractor Fergus (Mark Womack) returns to Liverpool from Iraq to attend the funeral of his friend Frankie (John Bishop) who was killed on‘Route Irish’, the dangerous road between Baghdad airport and the Green Zone. Fergus doesn’t accept the official story of his death, and discovers that a cell phone camera recording of a horrific shooting incident holds the key to the truth of why Frankie died.

Mark Womack’s Fergus is the ferocious heart of the film, and it is a stunning portrayal of a deeply traumatised man consumed with sorrow and anger over his experiences in Iraq and the loss of his best friend. Fergus channels his pain into a determination to get to the bottom of what really happened to Frankie, and to do so he must put himself and others at great risk by questioning colleagues in Iraq via skype and confronting officials of the private security firm that employs him. The plot is intriguingly complicated, but Loach and his long time collaborator screenwriter Paul Laverty are in firm control; the film moves along at a great clip while keeping us aware of who all the key players are and their roles in the conspiracy surrounding Frankie’s death as it unravels.

Key to all of this is Fergus, who operates as sort of a hard-boiled, Chandler-esque detective as he moves through Liverpool within his aura of seething, barely suppressed violence. Although director Loach disagreed with my reading of Fergus as a kind of Marlowe figurewhen I interviewed him this week, it’s an interesting way to look at his character, and an apt one on many levels. Fergus is deeply disturbed as a result of what he witnessed and took part in in Iraq both in and out of the military, and the only way he can express himself is through verbal (he shouts profanely for much of the film) and physical expressions of anger and violence. Like the investigator protagonists of post WWIIfilm noir, who struggled to transition from the military and the horrors of combat back to civilian life, Fergus is psychologically scarred and deeply cynical, but retains a sense of honour and decency which keeps him moving forward in his quest for the truth, and for revenge.

As always with the work of Ken Loach, characterisation is key and there is a great supporting cast surrounding Womack’s Fergus. Frankie is only seen in a few flashback scenes, but comic Bishop effectively conveys the character’s charm and essential decency. Andrea Lowe as Frankie’s widow Rachel is both tough and vulnerable, a bereaved woman who feels a wealth of conflicting emotions towards Fergus including anger, distrust, and desire. Most interestingly, Kurdish singer and musician Talib Rasool, in the Loach tradition of using non-actors, has a small but important role as a musician with an IT day job who assists Fergus with translation and extracting data from the all important cell phone. He is deeply suspicious of Fergus’ motives and disgusted with the cell phone footage; he only grudgingly comes to trust him, in the end suffering harsh consequences (as do most of the men Fergus calls on for assistance) for becoming involved.

The filmmakers clearly have enormous empathy for former soldiers turned security contractors, while having nothing but contempt for the firms that employ and deploy them. While the work of these soldiers-for-hire is very well paid, they are viewed with distrust (if not contempt) by almost all whom they deal with, and when they return to their home countries suffering from post traumatic stress or physical injuries there is little or no support offered and they are not perceived as any sort of heroes. The company that employs Fergus and Frankie, represented by the slick senior managers that Fergus deals with, are aggressive corporate hacks keen to get out of Iraq and build a much bigger business running national infrastructures. This is the warning that Loach and Laverty ask us to heed; if corporate security firms are running prisons, policing and actual combat today, what services will our governments be farming out to corporations in the near future if we don’t put a stop to this form of privatization?

SXSW 2011–The City Dark–Trailer, Screening Times : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog

Following the journey of filmmaker Ian Cheaney, the environmental documentary features interviews with astronomers, and scientists who share their view on the darkness, starlight, and the dangers of light pollution from the urban landscape.

Growing up in the natural beauty of Maine, Cheaney moves to New York City, only to discover the stars in the night sky are wiped out by the lights of the city. This compels him to learn more about the missing stars and the issues surrounding it.

PRESS RELEASE

World Premiere of THE CITY DARK at SXSW film festival a new feature documentary from the co-creator of KING CORN

Austin, TX— THE CITY DARK, a new feature documentary by Peabody Award-winning filmmaker Ian Cheney, premieres Saturday, March 12th in the Documentary Feature Competition at the South by Southwest Film Festival. The film chronicles the disappearance of darkness, revealing the surprising impact of light pollution on human health, the environment, and our culture’s relationship to the night sky.

Many Americans are familiar with the bright orange glow that floats above every city at night; it’s estimated that 2/3 of all Americans cannot see the Milky Way from their own backyards, and across the world, 2/3 of all humans live under skies polluted by artificial light. But might we be losing more than our view of the stars?

THE CITY DARK follows filmmaker Ian Cheney, who grew up an amateur astronomer in Maine but moves to New York City and discovers skies awash in electric light. Posing a deceptively simple question,“What do we lose, when we lose the night?” the film leads viewers on a quest to understand what is lost in the glare of city lights. Astronomers atop Haleakala in Hawaii lament the city lights fogging their newest observatory, designed to detect killer asteroids headed for earth. Biologists along the Florida coast trace the death of thousands of hatching sea turtles to their disorientation by Miami’s lights. In Chicago, viewers learn that migratory birds, accustomed to navigating by the stars, are colliding by the millions into brightly lit office buildings all across the US. Cancer researchers at Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania unravel the shocking relationship between exposure to light at night and the risk of breast cancer in shift workers. Each visit deepens viewers’ understanding of both the measurable and intangible benefits of darkness, while asking us to pauseand consider whether darkness is a natural resource — an overlooked part of the wilderness needing our protection. A cast of quirky characters includes luminaries like astrophysicist Neil deGRasse Tyson and author Ann Druyan alongside volunteer bird-rescuers and sidewalk stargazers. Blending a humorous tone with majestic footage of the night sky, what unravels is an introduction to the science of the dark, and an exploration of the human relationship to the stars.

Win Skyline on Blu-ray : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog

To celebrate the release of Momentum Pictures’ movie, Skyline on 21st March, we’ve been given five copies to give away. Remember, whatever you do, don’t look up!

SKYLINE is a terrifying journey into our fear of the unknown, a high-velocity, special effects bonanza that resonates with feelings of urban panic in these dangerous times. Visual-effects masters The Brothers Strause (AVPR: Aliens vs. Predator—Requiem)—whose company Hydraulx has imagined visual effects for Avatar, 2012,Iron Man2,The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttonand 300—have directed, produced and financed a spectacular and chilling independent film of epic proportions.

A group of friends are awakened in the dead of the night by a strange, eerie light beaming through their apartment window. Like moths to a flame, a disturbing blue light is throwing the people of Los Angeles into a trance, drawing them outside before a terrifying extraterrestrial force swallows them off the face of the earth. The city streets are empty, the phones are down and TV stations broadcast HD news feeds of nothing but empty chairs. In a matter of hours, we will all be gone.

For Jarrod (Eric Balfour) and Elaine (Scottie Thompson), a simple weekend away to visit friends Terry (Donald Faison) and Candice (Brittany Daniel) becomes a nightmare. As they watch in terror from Terry’s penthouse windows, people across the city are swallowed into massive alien ships that have blotted out the L.A. skyline: life as they know it is finished. With the military struggling to keep the aliens at bay, now it will take every survival instinct they have to elude capture from the thousands of monstrous creatures that are sweeping the city and searching for all humans in their path. From tankers to drones and hydra-like extraterrestrials, the aliens are inescapable and seemingly indestructible.

Eric Balfour (24, Texas Chainsaw Massacre) stars alongsideDavid Zayas(Dexter,The Expendables), Donald Faison (Scrubs), Brittany Daniel (Sweet Valley High),Neil Hopkins(Lost) and newcomers Scottie Thompson (Star Trek) and Crystal Reed (Crazy, Stupid, Love). SKYLINE is directed by brothers Colin Strause and Greg Strause, written by Liam O’Donnell and Joshua Cordes and producer Kristian Andreson.
