Vanessa Hudgens Joins A Virgin Mary : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
Hudgens will star as a “slutty best friend” opposite Lily Collins (The Blind Side), Carter Jenkins (Valentine’s Day) and Daryl Sabara (Spy Kids).
A Virgin Mary tells the story of Mary (Collins), a teenage girl who makes a vow to have sex with her best guy friend (Jenkins) if they’re still virgins when they turn 18.
Beth Schacter (Normal Adolescent Behavior) is attached to direct from a script she wrote herself, with production expected to commence in the Summer.
Hudgens, meanwhile, will next be seen in Sucker Punch, which opens in the UK on April 1.

Josh Radnor to Direct and Co-Star in Liberal Arts : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
Radnor will co-star opposite Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene) in the love story.
Liberal Arts centers on a 35-year-old (Radnor), still yearning for the life of a college student, who must come to terms with his age and responsibilities.
Olsen, meanwhile, will play a 19-year-old college student who falls for Radnor’s character over a shared love of music and literature.
Tom Sawyer Entertainment and BCDF Pictures will co-produce, with filming expected to begin in May, while How I Met Your Mother is on hiatus.

Ed Harris Will Play John McCain in Game Change : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
The Hollywood Reporterhas revealed that Ed Harris will play presidential candidate John McCain in the film, which focuses on the Republican’s 2008 presidential campaign and defeat.
The film is being made by Austin Powers/Meet The Parents helmer Jay Roach– a seemingly left-field choice for such material, but he was also behind HBO’s 2008 Emmy-winning politically-themed Recount.

New Dorothy of Oz Poster Unveiled : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
But while most of the hype and debate has focused on Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful to the mooted Robert Zemeckis remake of the original film, the upcoming animated adventure Dorothy of Oz has been keeping itself a little quieter– until now.
Previously we’d seen a little concept art here and there, but now we have a full blown promotional poster to get excited over, sure to delight Oz-fans with it’s recognisable trademarks:

There is trouble in Oz and Dorothy is needed! With Glinda’s help, she and Toto return to Oz. IFC Films Acquire US Rights to Rob Minkoff’s Flypaper : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
Directed by Rob Minkoff (The Lion King), Flypaper starsPatrick Dempsey(Enchanted), Ashley Judd (Crossing Over), Jeffrey Tambor(Win Win),Tim Blake Nelson(Leaves of Grass) and Pruitt Taylor Vince (Natural Born Killers).
Flypaper premiered earlier this year at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival to moderately positive reviews.
Tripp Kennedy (Dempsey) ambles into a bank near closing time, just as two different gangs unwittingly converge to rob it. A shoot-out erupts, and Tripp tackles the smart, pretty teller, Kaitlin (Judd), to protect her. The gangs– one clearly made up of pros and the other a couple of buffoons named Peanut Butter (Nelson) and Jelly (Pruitt Taylor Vince)– have deadlocked themselves in a Mexican standoff. The bank’s security system starts the end-of-day lockdown and seals everyone into the building. As the night evolves, a hilarious game of cat and mouse ensues as Tripp and Kaitlin try to save the day, escape being killed, and avoid falling in love . . . almost.
IFC will release the film in cinemas and on its Video-on-Demand service later this year.

Juno Temple Locked for Supporting Role in The Dark Knight Rises : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
Temple, who’s involvement was firstrumoured last week, will star opposite Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Michael Caine, Joseph Gordon Levitt and Morgan Freeman in the Christopher Nolan-directed Batman threequel.
The Dark Knight Rises is set to begin shooting early this May.

Based on Megan McDonald’s comedy book series, Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer is directed by John Schultz and stars Heather Graham (The Hangover), Jordana Beatty (Superman Returns), Janet Varney (Drillbit Taylor), Jaleel White (Dreamgirls) and Ashley Boettcher (Aliens in the Attic).
Third-grader Judy Moody (Beatty) sets out to have the most thrilling summer of her life.

Lily Collins Offered Role in Odd Thomas Adaptation : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
If Collins accepts the offer, she will star opposite Anton Yelchin (The Beaver) in the feature film adaptation of Dean Koontz’ horror novel.
Stephen Sommers(The Mummy) is attached to direct from a script he wrote himself.
Odd Thomas (Yelchin) is silently approached by the ghost of a young girl (Collins) brutally raped and murdered, and through his unique ability to understand the dead, is psychically led to her killer, a former schoolmate named Harlo Landerson. With this opening, we are introduced to Odd’s world. Koontz soon discloses how Odd was named and begins, layer by layer, to show how Odd’s dysfunctional upbringing has shaped his life, and as those details are uncovered, his supernatural abilities begin to make more sense.
Fusion Films are financing the production.
Collins will next be seen in Priest, which opens in the UK on May 11.

Country Strong Review : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
Gwyneth Paltrowis country superstar Kelly Canter, a Faith Hill-esque figure (presumably with added hedonistic tendencies) who has fallen on hard times. Finishing a stint in rehab, she’s due to stage a comeback tour, although her mental and physical wellbeing may not be ready for such a demanding activity. Manager/husband James (Tim McGraw– ironically, the only bona fide country star in the film who doesn’t sing) however, is convinced this is just what she needs in order to make it back to the top again. Much to the annoyance of her husband, Kelly insists on bringing with her on tour as a supporting act, a young hospital orderly and aspiring singer-songwriter (Tron: Legacy’sGarrett Hedlund, swapping a light cycle for an acoustic guitar) whom she has formed an intimate bond with during her hospitalisation.
Emotions are further tempered when jealously rears its ugly head as a beauty queen-turned-singer (Leighton Meester) joins the tour as James’ protégé. Can Kelly make it through to the all-important dates, or will she be doing bourbon chasers while popping those pills by the time the tour reaches Dallas (the setting and catalyst for her previous downfall).
In the past few years in particular, the world of country music has created a fascinating outlet for both real-life and fictitious cinematic lost souls who are battling their demons and trying to regain the magic touch the once possessed. Some have even reaped the ultimate Hollywood accolade for their portrayals, with Oscar nods for bothJoaquin Phoenixas Johnny Cash andJeff Bridgesfinally picking up the statue via Crazy Heart.
A stronger actress in the lead may have elevated the film to a so-so drama, although Shana Feste’s unambitious and pedestrian direction doesn’t help either. The film looks like one of those made-for-TV movies and apart from the odd glimpse of Kelly’s destructive behaviour (which don’t really push the boundaries of decency and taste anyway) the film wouldn’t seem out of place in one of those mid-afternoon screening slots on terrestrial TV. The only touching scene is delivered when Kelly pays a visit to a school during the tour, and plays to a young child suffering from leukaemia. It helps that the kid looks genuinely sick, but we’re also offered a fleeting look at a warm and maternal side to the singer– an interesting and conflicting aspect an to an otherwise cold and detached character, which is never really exploited again in the film.
The two younger co-stars fare much better. Meester (best known for TV’s Gossip Girl) initially comes over as all naïve and innocent, but is able to imbue her character with a strength and level-headedness which is very appealing. Hedlund too is surprisingly good, and handles the singing side admirably, his gravelly voice completely lending itself to a heart-felt country ditties he croons. It wouldn’t be surprising if he isn’t already fielding offers from potential records companies on the quality of his work here.
If country music is your thing, give the film a miss and download the soundtrack instead.

Interview with Thomas Ikimi, Director of Legacy: Black Ops : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
Like Nolan’s debut, his first feature, Limbo, was a micro budget affair which cost $9000 and was produced mostly through using his student credit card. His follow-up, Legacy: Black Ops, which was released on DVD last week (you can read our reviewhere), also shares a link to Memento via its similar delve into the mind of a troubled and psychologically-unbalanced protagonist (a striking central performance from The Wire’s Idris Elba).
Ikimi is of Nigerian descent and attended primary school in Nigeria and public school in England before gaining a literature and writing degree from Columbia University, New York. His next project (a sci-fi film) is currently in pre-production.
We caught up with him to chat about the making of‘Black Ops’ and how he manages to get a one of Baltimore’s most notorious criminal figures involved.
Can you tell me a little bit about how Legacy: Black Ops came about.
The initial reason behind the idea was because I was trying to meet Steven Spielberg. He had a TV series called On The Lot (short-lived reality show competition produced by Spielberg and Mark Burnett). At the time I was in the UK, having finished my last project, and I was looking for opportunities. My brother told me about the show and the chance to meet Spielberg and potentially win a development deal. I got through the first round and made it to the last 150 people or so. The idea I come up with was a one room setting story which was essentially Black Ops. When I didn’t make it to the last round on the show I looked at the idea and realised it wasn’t bad at all, so I started to develop it and then I saw Twelve Angry Men for the first time and realised it was possible to do something compelling in one room.
The film looks very cinematic despite its stagy setting. How did you manage to achieve this?
There were a lot of things working against me with the film. First thing on a basic level was its only one room. You’re limited in the interesting shots you can create and you’re trying focus on one tiny space. I think the difference between my movie and a lot of others which have a similar set-up is that I was evoking something much larger here. It’s not all about everything going on in the room – it’sreally about creating an aura of things that have happened before and outside of the room, such as the flashbacks, and information gained through the TV screen and the newspaper cuttings. When I was shooting it I kept thinking to myself if I was doing this scene, how I could shoot it if it was partof a bigger movie. I didn’t think of it as just one small, basic room– I tried to make it interesting.
Idris Elba gives a fantastic performance in the film and he’s also credited as Executive Producer. How did you get him onboard?
When I finished the script, we started looking at the actor options and decided we wanted British performers– people who could work and travel to the UK, or those who had a base there. We made a list and he was on there. We thought of him for the senator initially, but as he was one of the first people to get back to us expressing that he would really love to do it, we decided to give him something more interesting to do and we offered him instead the part of the main character. I think that tipped the scales in terms of him signing on. He jumped at it and when I got the call from him, he said he would be executive producer and really wanted to help out anyway he could. He wanted to wait at first and see if his presence in the film could potentially raise more funds, but I decided that we needed to go with the half million dollars I’d managed to cobble together as even a year from that date, we may not have been able to get him, and anything after that may have been impossible!
The film looks great for a modestly-budgeted production. How did you manage to get more bangs for your bucks, so to speak?
I have to give a lot of credit to the Scottish crew (it was filmed in Dumfries and Galloway) that worked on the film. They didn’t get paid a lot and they didn’t have much time either and with what they had available, they did a fantastic job. You look at the high level of quality these guys were able to achieve you then wonder why, if a movie costs 20 million, you can’t have something more incredible than a lot of thestuff that’s out there in that price range. I also think having a lot of clarity and going into the project knowing exactly what it is you want to do really help too. Once you have that, if you hit any bricks walls, it’s much easier to compromise, change course and do things which you didn’tperhaps visualise first.
The film got a small UK cinema release and then came out on DVD the following week. What kind of reception has it received?
When you look at the review, they’ve been so mixed. Ultimately I made a movie I would have loved to have seen. It’s interesting the love/hate reception the film has received. Critics seem to love it or hate it but I think the last thing you want to do is create a film that people are lukewarm towards. They watch it and it justwashes over them. They’re the kind of movies you want to avoid. I also think that compared to some of the films coming out nowadays, it’s a pretty weird film, because it’s so unlike a lot out there.
Can you tell us a little bit about your next project?
I’m working on a sci-fi action thriller. I think that’s the best way of describing it. It’s in the Philip K. Dick mould, and it basically deals with the concept of humanity and what it is that makes a person human, which is what a lot of sci-fi deals with anyway. That’s really the focus of the film. What defines a person and what motivates a person to be who they are. My first film cost nine grand so even if I have 10 million dollars here, getting it to look like a 50-100 million picture can be achieved from hopefully applying the same principles of my two previous film and not thinkingjust because you have a more money at your deposal, it doesn’t mean you just throw it at something to make it work.

The FP Trailer : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
This film marks the first full length feature from the Trost Brothers (Brandon and Jason), and is based on the 2007 short film of the same name. The story, set 200 years in the future, revolves around a deadly spinoff of Dance Dance Revolution, and mans quest to avenge the brother he lost to the game’s ruthless champion. Think Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Kickboxer, but 200 years in the future, and instead of kickboxing, think Dance Dance Revolution.
It is blatantly clear that the two Trost Brothers have their tongues firmly planted in their cheeks on this one. With a $1,000,000.00 budget and 20+ plus years of industry experience, Jason and Brandon’s ability to execute is not an issue. Whether the joke can hold its own for the film’s 83 minute run time, is another story completely. I guess we’ll have to wait until the films commercial release to find out.

John Travolta and Nicolas Cage Signing Up for Indie Thrillers Shrapnel and Sea Trial? : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
The first project which has the Face/Off pair in their sights is Shrapnel, a script from Evan Dougherty which appeared on the 2008 Black List along with The Beaver, Ingolourious Basterds and Up in the Air among others, and deals with two soldiers on a hunting trip which turns into a hunt…only not.
Sounds like a solid use of the duo’s qualitites, both going slowly mad in a hostile environment trying to off each other, and it makes a change from a pair of the latest Hollywood teen faces sharing a screen.
Next up on the TravoltaCage fest is Sea Trial, Raymond De Felitta’s adaptation of his father’s novel, which is awaiting backing but signatures from the two men may make this an surer option.
Not sure if the parody train has let these two alight but in the right hands these two could be an interesting prospect.

The First Action Packed Teaser Trailer& New Poster for The Three Musketeers : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
The Three Musketeers has a very eclectic cast as it’s a mixture of top class actors and comedy specialists which includes the likes of James Corden. American audiences may not be familiar with him but he was made famous for writing and starring in British TV series, Gavin and Stacey. He then went on to make Lesbian Vampire Killers which was shockingly awful! I wonder what sort of dynamic he’s set to bring in this (my guess is the light relief). It also stars Mads Mikkelsen, Logan Lerman, Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Christoph Waltz, Milla Jovovich, Juno Temple and Orlando Bloom.
The Three Musketeers is scheduled for release 14th October this year.
Synopsis: The hot-headed young D’Artagnan (Logan Lerman) joins forces with three rogue Musketeers (Matthew MacFadyen, Luke Evans and Ray Stevenson) in this reboot of Alexandre Dumas’ story. They must stop the evil Richlieu (Christoph Waltz) and face off with Buckingham (Orlando Bloom) and the treacherous Milady (Milla Jovovich). The action adventure is given a state of the art update in 3-D.
This trailer looks bloody brilliant and is going to be action packed. Wasn’t lokoing forward to this movie until now, it looks insane!!

Anthony Hopkins& Chris Hemsworth Feature on Two New Thor Posters : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
For those who know nothing about Thor (I was indeed one of you until writing about this movie for the past year!) we also have some nice character descriptions for Thor and Odin too. Both posters are pretty much the same asthe international poster& banner that we placed up not too long ago but it’s nice to see them in colour and cut out respectively. I guess we’ll see the Portman Alba posters released in due course too.

Sucker Punch Review : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
The story begins with our heroine, Baby Doll (Emily Browning), in an unfortunate situation when her deceased mother leaves all of her assets to her daughters and nothing for her husband, who is only the stepfather of the girls. In a drunken rage, the stepfather attempts to sexually assault Baby Doll and fails, turning instead to her younger sister. In an effort to defend her sibling, Baby makes a mistake that her sister pays for in the end, and is quickly taken to an all-girl mental asylum by the wicked step-father to undergo a lobotomy in what appears to be an attempt to“shut her up” if the cops come around.
Now here’s where it gets tricky. After the quick tour around the sketchy-looking mental facility, we suddenly come to the room the lobotomy is about to be carried out in by an almost out-of-placeJon Hammplaying the doctor. Just as he is about to begin, Baby’s eyes open wide and all of a sudden we find ourselves in what appears
to be an alternate reality of the hospital, where the dirty, glowering girls are now glammed up bordello slaves forced to dance and more for“high rollers” and other clientele.
After getting a new tour, this time of a place that resembles an elegant theater rather than a mental hospital, Baby is brought to a dance studio room where the other girls and their Madam (who is really their therapist, in the“real” world) are gathered to practice their routines, and is made to dance for the first time. In order to deal with the pressure of having to“fight for her life”, as Dr. Gorski-the-Madam put it, she sinks into what is yet ANOTHER alternate reality where she meets the Wise Man (Scott Glenn) who cryptically instructs her on how to fight for her escape. Confused yet?
The rest of the movie consists of Baby enlisting the help of her fellow mistresses played by solid cast membersJena Malone(Donnie Darko),Abbie Cornish(Stop-Loss),Jamie Chung(Sorority Row) and a less-convincing Vanessa Hudgens (Beastly), to assist her in hip swaying her way to freedom while trying to stay under the radar of the creepy,
but amusing, boss-man Blue Jones (Oscar Isaac).
Snyder does an great job of blending the action and fantasy genres into a visually stunning explosion of realistic-looking dragons, sore-infested mutants, and giant monsters wearing paddy hats with all of the above getting their butts kicked by girls that I am confident have absolutely no chance in doing so in the real world. I wouldn’t have expected any less after seeing a teeny tiny Emily Browning karate kick said giant monster from about 7 stories in the air in the trailer for the film. My complaint, though, is that it ends there. Each reality-within-a-reality scene is chocked full of action packed, unrealistic fight scenes with enemies that I’m assuming have some sort of connection with the real world, yet I’m having trouble seeing what that connection is. What Snyder could have made a completely excellent and original screenplay (the keyword being“complete”), was instead delivered as a movie with all the bells and whistles with nothing to hold them up.
Another minor disappointment involves the character building, or the lack thereof. You get a basic gist of the emotional stability of each character, but not much else. The only characters the screenplay attempts to give a background on, aside from Baby Doll, are the sisters (Sweet Pea and Rocket), but even that bit of information does little to expand on the characters themselves. We know nothing about who any of them really are, and what they did to land themselves in a mental health facility that would probably make a rat cringe at the sight of it. Because of this, when anything bad happens to a character, you experience no emotions more intense than mild surprise.
An impressive performance was given by Emily Browning who conveyed a range of emotions with the ease of a veteran as our leading lady, but the excellent acting was overshadowed by the screenplay that did much to appeal to the eye, but little to complete the story. If you’re looking for guns, girls and lots of mutant punching, you’ve come to the right place, but don’t expect to leave the film with anything more than a furrowed brow as you try to figure out what you just spent the last 2 hours watching.

Stunning Dune Poster Worms Its Way Online : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
Created by artistKevin Tong, it’s a re-imagining of David Lynch’s 1984 version of the book, and it’s a fantastic, abstract-y ensemble piece which clearly looks it was an incredibly time-consuming undertaking. The artist has even managed to sneak in an image of the director from his cameo in the film (he’s to the right ofSting and above the mining truck).
Hollywood should be beating down the doors to work with this new generation of graphic artists.

Two More for Thor: New Posters Complete the Set : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
Natalie Portman and Idris Elba are pushed both front and centre for these images, and there’s a quiet momentum building for Branagh’s film, though how much it permeates the audience unfamiliar with the comic book is unclear– these posters are striking enough but will they help draw the crowds in the same way the first Iron Man film did?

It’s 1845, and Stephen Meek (Greenwood) is a boastful, rough-hewn wilderness guide who has been hired by three families who want to start new lives on the other side of Oregon’s Cascade Mountains. Meek constantly tells his charges that he knows the Oregon Trail like the back of his hand, but whenthey veer off for a shortcut he says is foolproof, they soon find themselves in forbidding territory, without water and with Indians on the horizon. While the men of the party travel with Meek, their wives are made to follow them in a separate wagon, and Emily Tetherow (Williams), the strong-willedwife of Solomon Tetherow (Patton), begins openly questioning Meek’s competence among the other women, especially her friend Millie Gately (Kazan). While making their way through the wilderness, the party happens upon a Cayuse Indian (Rondeaux); Meek captures the Indian and proposes they kill him,but Emily bravely speaks up for him, believing he has the right to live and perhaps the knowledge to lead them safely over the mountains.
Meek’s Cutoff will be released in the UK on April 15.

First Crazy Trailer for Jim Carrey’s Mr. Popper’s Penguins : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
Mr. Popper’s Penguins is directed byMark Watersand also starsCarla Gugino,Madeline Carrolland the legendaryAngela Lansbury.
Synopsis: An adaptation of the beloved 1938 children’s book, which won the 1939 Newbery Award. Mr. Popper is a house painter whose dreams of Arctic exploration prompt him to write letters to real explorers. One of them sends him a penguin, which he keeps in the icebox. Before he knows it, the painter has a litter of 12 beaked birds. They eat voraciously, leading him to form Popper’s Performing Penguins.
As you’ll see when you watch the trailer, this is completely crazy and brings back memories ofAce Ventura: Pet Detectivefrom 1994! Has it really been that long?!
According to IMDb, it’s set for release in the UK 1st August this year. We’ll obviously keep you posted.

The First image of Shia LaBeouf in The Wettest County in the World : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
SlashFilmgive us more information on the movie which was apparently scheduled to start shooting last year then died, but as this image of Shia La Beouf and possible co-stars proves, the movie is alive and well and is current filming as I type.
Plot: In 1928, a pair of thieves accost Bondurant’s real life great-uncle Forrest at his Franklin County, Va., restaurant. They’re after a large cache of bootlegging money and end up cutting Forrest’s throat. The story of his survival and his trek to a hospital 12 miles away has taken on mythical proportions by the time SherwoodAnderson arrives in Franklin County in 1934 to research a magazine piece on the area’s prolific moonshiners. Soon after Anderson’s arrival, two anonymous men appear at the same hospital, one with legs meticulously shattered from ankle to hip, the other one castrated, with the by-products of the deed deposited in a jar of moonshine. The arc of the story lies between the attack on Forrest and that on the two men.

Jason Schwartzman Joins Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
Schwartzman’s acting debut saw him take the lead in Anderson’s second film, Rushmore, which, like all of Anderson’s films, is something of a cult favourite. The two have since worked together on The Darjeeling Limited, which Schwartman also helped to write, and on 2009’s Fantastic Mr. Fox, and their pairing over the years has been incredibly successful. The two clearly must have a great connection with each other, having started their careers much at the same time together, and there is every reason to expect that Moonrise Kingdom will be another Anderson success.
Schwartzman was last seen on the big screen in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World as the last of Ramona Flowers’ boyfriends, he has since been seen on HBO in Bored To Death, playing the lead in a TV series alongside Zach Galifianakis (whose name I always need to double- (okay, triple-)check I’ve spelt right) and Ted Danson.
Moonrise Kingdom has already got an impeccably strong cast lined up for itself, with Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, and Anderson-favourite Bill Murray attached to star too.The Guardianhave a bit more to say on the plot:
“Moonrise Kingdom is a 60′s set tale which revolves around two young lovers who take off from their New England hometown causing friends and family to embark on a search for them. Willis, according to previous reports, will play the town sheriff, who’s also having an affair with the missing girl’s mother (a role pencilled for McDormand), while Norton has his eye on the part of a scout master. Murray will play the girl’s father.”
I am a really big fan of all of Wes Anderson’s films to date, and I truly can’t wait to see how Moonrise Kingdom turns out. It certainly has potential based on that plot, and given that Anderson will be at the helm with such a terrific cast to work with, at the very least I can see it taking a strong position in my Top 10 of 2012.
Anderson has co-written the script with Roman Coppola (son of Francis Ford Coppola), and filming is to begin in the coming months in Rhode Island. With Owen Wilson’s schedule currently looking relatively light, mostly filled with upcoming animated film Turkeys and David Frankel-directed The Big Year, I am hopeful – expectant, even – that Wilson will be confirmed for Moonrise Kingdom before long. Having starred in all six of Anderson’s feature films todate, it just wouldn’t seem right without him.

The Bang Bang Club Gets A New Trailer : HeyUGuys–UK Movie / Film Blog
The film, which starsRyan Phillippe(The Lincoln Lawyer),Taylor Kitsch(X-Men Origins: Wolverine) andMalin Akerman(Watchmen), will hit cinemas on April 22, having been picked up by Tribeca Film.
Based on real events, The Bang Bang Club centres on Greg Marinovich (Phillippe), Kevin Carter (Kitsch), Joao Silva (Neels Van Jaarsveld) and Ken Oosterbroek (Frank Rautenbach), four combat photojournalists who worked through the first free elections in post Apartheid South Africa during the early 90s.
With early reports from its screening at Toronto last year bathing the film in a relatively positive light, it was left to Variety’s Peter Debruge to argue that the filmmakers should have taken more liberties and risks with the story. Regardless of such early reviews, however, the trailer does show considerable promise.
